ADEQUATEC has designed and developed the ADEQUAPRESS, a high efficiency screw press. It is a self-contained unit for sludge thickening and dewatering.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE

Principle of a screw press
All screw presses are composed of a cylinder (the drum) which ensures the filtration and a variable pitch Archimedes screw which ensures the transport and the pressing of the solid/liquid mixture.

Technology of ADEQUAPRESS disc drums
The ADEQUAPRESS drum has the particularity of being made up of a succession of fixed flat rings and free flat rings (discs). The filtration takes place in the space calibrated by spacers separating the flat faces of these two types of discs. This is how the ADEQUAPRESS screw press produces consistent sludge with a dryness close to the mechanical limit dryness while ensuring a very clear filtrate. The average capture rate (solid/liquid separation efficiency) reaches the exceptional value of 99%, which no other screw press can achieve. The ADEQUAPRESS screw presses operate continuously thanks to the ingenious movement of the mobile rings between the fixed rings, which makes them uncloggable. They do not require stopping or backwashing.

The exceptional performance of the ADEQUAPRESS screw presses is obtained thanks to the combination of this disc drum technology and the efficiency of its dewatering process which implements the four natural stages of sludge dewatering:

Flocculation – Drainage- Thickening – Dewatering

1

Flocculation

1

Flocculation is an essential step in mechanical dewatering. It allows the separation of the liquid and solid phases by adding a polymer that promotes the formation of flocs. It takes place in a flocculation reactor specially designed to ensure mixing with sufficient contact time. This reactor is unique to each installation. The agitation is ensured by a propeller controlled by a variable speed drive.

The quality of the flocculation depends only on the choice of the polymer and its dose. These are determined by a JAR TEST in the laboratory or by pilot tests in situ : Consult us

2

DRAINAGE

2

This is the gravitational separation of the free water and the sludge flocs. It takes place in the first third of the screw press drum which acts as a dewatering cloth.

Most of the pore water contained in the sludge is removed in this stage.
The quality of the filtrate depends directly on the flocculation.

3

Thickening

3

It is a dynamic extraction of the interstitial water contained in the flocs. It takes place in the second third of the drum, favored by the mechanical action of the screw and the mobile rings. This stage prepares the pressing stage and the dryness reaches 8 to 12% depending on the nature of the sludge.

4

DEWATERING

4

It is a mechanical compression of the thickened sludge operated in the last third of the drum by the combination of three factors:

The closing rate of the drum outlet adjusted with the occulter disc or stop
The speed of rotation of the screw of Archimedes
The tightening of the steps of the screw of Archimedes

The pressing allows to reach the final dryness of the sludge by evacuating the available water in the form of wet sludge called leakage.
